If you are trying to stay active this winter but are not into sports where equipment is expensive and it takes lots of lessons to master the technique of the sport, try going snowshoeing with SPORT TOURING VENTURES.

Every one can do it. Snowshoeing is as easy as walking. There are some simple techniques we will teach you to make a wide range of terrain immediately accessible. The terrain selection will be chosen according to the group. Our emphasis is fun and enjoying the great winter enviroment these mountains have to offer.

Whether you are just renting the snowshoes and are heading out alone, or with a group, get a local weather forecast. Conditions can sometimes change abruptly and you need to be prepared. Know your limits. Anytime you are going out on a winter trail, make sure someone knows where you will be snowshoeing, and the time of your expected return. Also remember, always pack out what you pack in.

We offer private, family and group tours. If you are coming to town for company meetings and have some free time, e-mail or call us and we will arange a fun snowshoe tour for you.

What to wear and what to bring - snowshoe requirements

On Your Body:
Snowshoeing is an aerobic activity. Be prepared to get quite warm while you're trekking, but you will cool off quickly when you stop. A system of layers of clothing is the best way to address the temperature fluctuations.
A simple wool hat is also an effective way to conserve body heat and prevent a chill.

For the Hands:
A light weight pair of gloves for the ascent, and a pair of warm gloves for the descent. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses. Goggles if snow is in the forecast.

On Your Feet:
Choose boots that are warm, comfortable and will keep your feet dry. Socks made from wool or silk are best, as they wick away wetness and allow your feet to stay dry. To keep the snow out of your boots, we recommend gators. (rentals available)

Ample Food and Water:
Plan on a pint of water per person per hour and enough snacks to keep the energy level high. Bring a small backpack for day tours. A fannypack for 2 to 3 HR tours. ( Rentals are available).
